Sculpting and Foundry Tour

"Shidoni" is a Navajo word used in greeting a friend. The welcome first given when visiting the Shidoni Foundry is a visual "Hello" from the dozens of monumental sculptures set out in the large gardens. The pieces are a testament to the foundry's productivity and the skill of its staff in creating remarkable bronze sculpture for the last 36 years.

Following the glass blowing demonstration, take part in sculpting exercises, led by instructor Lisa Gordon from Sculpture 101, designed to introduce you to materials and tools common in the bronze casting community. This engaging lesson on the process of bronze creation will leave you to marvel even more at what it takes to produce the works on the Shidoni grounds and in the galleries.

Additionally, you will be given an artist-led tour of the 14,000 square foot foundry, among the nation's leading bronze foundries, specializing in enlargement, mold making, lost wax casting, fabrication and patina.

Please also see Tesuque Glassworks that is part of this activity.
