Geology on Horseback in Santa Fe, New Mexico Saturday,November 20, 2010July 27th, 2010Explore the hills and arroyos of the historic Cerrillos area on smooth-riding Tennessee Walkers and Missouri Fox-Trotters. While you enjoy spectacular 360-degree views,wrangler/instructor John Rogers discusses the geology,geologic history and historical mining activity of the area.
The ride passes several small mining operations dating back to the 1870s and fossil-rich sediments from the bottom of an ancient sea that once covered New Mexico. Students must weigh less than 210 pounds and provide their height and weight at registration to be matched with an appropriate horse. Española Valley Fiber Arts Center – Schedule July/September 2010July 26th, 2010Española Valley Fiber Arts Center This class is an opportunity to absorb the basics of this local New Mexican weaving tradition from a master practitioner. Students will learn how to combine angles and forms to create this unique form of woven expression. WEAVING ON AN INKLE LOOM with Annie MacHale This class will introduce students to the wondrous possibilities of creating warp-faced bands on this simple loom. Learn basic setup and how to plan patterns and weave with straight edges. Many examples will be presented to inspire you with ideas for some of the possible patterns and projects. BEGINNING WEAVING WORKSHOP 1 with Rohna York For those just starting to weave or those who need a refresher course. Using cotton and other nonwool fibers, we will learn how to make a warp, warp the loom (including reading a draft), and do a series of basic weave patterns while creating a useful dishtowel. ONGOING LEARNING at EVFAC EVFAC stocks a large selection of yarns and equipment in our retail area. They are available for sale to members, students and to the general public. ABOUT THE WORKSHOPS Because these are all small workshops, I am able to give each student a great deal of individual attention, and have found that there is no problem in having students from those beginning in encaustic to those who are more advanced in the same workshop, although there are now also workshops designed for more experienced encaustic artists.
