Workshops for adults will held in the portal of the Museum from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Cost per person per class is $60 for members and $75 for non-members plus the materials fee. Las Colcheras Coloniales (The Colonial Colcha Club)
The Colcha Club will continue to meet every second Wednesday morning from 10:00 to 12:00 in the portal of the Museum. Julia Gómez, Spanish Market colcha artist, will be available for instruction and help for beginners or experienced colcha embroidery artists.
Participation is free for Museum of Spanish Colonial Art members. Memberships start at $40.

Tinwork Poster Frame
Cleo Romero, first place winner in tinwork at the 2008 Spanish Market, will teach students how to make a traditional tin frame suitable to frame the annual Spanish Market poster. The frame will allow you to change posters each year. Materials Fee is $15.
New Innovations with Straw Appliqué
Jean Moya, Spanish Market artist, will teach students how to incorporate colored straw when using traditional straw appliqué techniques to decorate a cross. Jean is an accomplished artist creating retablos, hide paintings and works in straw appliqué. Materials fee $15.
Woodcarving, Cordova Style
Sabinita López Ortiz, Spanish Market artist and descendent of José Dolores lópez, will teach students how to carve a saint out of aspen wood with cedar accents. Students will learn traditional Cordova-style chip carving. Please bring your own pocketknife. Materials cost $15.

The built environment of the Southwest is one of the most beautiful examples of vernacular architecture in the United States. Many of these adobe structures are several centuries old and are symbolic of the rich heritage of the original builders. Traditions of community cooperation in maintaining the buildings have been passed down for generations. Thus, to preserve

vernacular, historic architecture is to preserve the cultural heritage and values they embody.
Since 1986, Cornerstones has assisted over 300 rural Hispanic and Native American communities throughout New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, and Texas in the restoration of their historic and cultural structures as a means for the preservation of the rich cultural heritage unique to this region. Over 50 major restoration projects, led by the community, have been successfully completed.
Cornerstones' community-based approach to the preservation of historic structures integrates historic preservation with at-risk youth apprenticeships; on-the-job adult training; the promotion of community collaborations; and economic development through heritage tourism.

Upon its moving waters and quiet ponds are set the mills. Up the hill stands the chapel. The bleat of the goats and sheep, the bray of the burro beckon the farmer. Prominent in the silhouette of the Placita is the defensive tower or torreón. Within the courtyards, ovens, or hornos, bring forth the memorable aroma of homemade bread. The clack of the looms dominates just as it once did hundreds of years ago in many New Mexican villages.
All of these aspects of life on the frontier are explored through the many activities set among the significant structures of this living history museum dedicated to recapturing a past life of beauty and hard work.

This multi-faceted course brings to life an historical experience through exciting lectures, special tours of Santa Fe's artistic treasures, culinary demonstration and dining, Spanish vocabulary brush up and even the opportunity to create your own Spanish-influenced tinwork. The course concludes at the famous La Casa Sena restaurant, a mainstay of Santa Fe's culinary traditions.
This week-long immersion into Santa Fe history will be filled with unique opportunities and special memories for participants. Among the activities planned are private, guided tours of the 400-year-old Palace of the Governors and architecturally significant buildings in the Plaza area, trips to the Museum of Spanish Colonial Arts and Peyton Wright Gallery, demonstration of Spanish foods and cooking techniques in the Culinary Arts lab at SFCC and, of course, time in the studio to create your own tinwork memento of the week's activities.
For this special event we have assembled some of Santa Fe's most dynamic teachers.
